Sights worth exploring:

The island of Suomenlinna
I enjoyed walking around this island with many paths round the coast and through the parks. Plus there's a museum, the maritime fortress and various places for snacks in the park. When I was there, there were free ferries going back and forth. 

Helsinki Cathedral, Uspenski Cathedral and Temppeliaukio Church 

The contrasting styles of architecture were interesting.
